Ginger Andro and Chuck Glicksman work as an artist team and have been making and exhibiting "Commodify or Die" dollars for over 10 years. These unique artworks made of hand engraved plexi-glass, Italian aluminum leaf, and photo collage on paper make an excellent addition to any art collection and can be easily displayed on walls and tabletops.
Commodify or Die dollars use a technique called verre eglomise, the ancient and traditional French process of reverse glass gilding. Each artwork is sized and hand-engraved in the pattern of a US dollar. Then the work is gilt with Italian aluminum, creating a reflective surface to capture the viewer in the bill’s portrait field. Backed with printed images that playfully interrogate the question of how value is made, every buck is minted with exquisite and mischievous craft.
Commodify or Die dollars all come hang ready and optionally can be framed.
